چکیده
The contribution of local anaesthetics to dentistry is vast; as almost all the branches in the dental and medical field require them. They are available inmany forms in the current era painless treatment is the at most requirement and the local anesthetics have undergone various advances to provide this painless treatment. This article discusses about the role of two local anesthetic agentslignocaine and bupivacaine in dentistry.

Allergy to local anaesthesia.
A 35-year-old female had severe anaphylactoid reactions to pnlocaine and lignocaine on separate occasions Intradermal testing was positive to serial dilutions of both drugs and negative to bupivacaine, which was subsequently used uneventfully While intradermal testing for local anaesthetic allergy has limited application it would appear that when such te*ts are positive in high dilution they ma...
متن کاملA methodological study of spinal (subarachnoid) anaesthesia in the rat and the mouse.
Rat and mouse were utilized as models to study the spinal (subarachnoid) anesthetic effects of five commonly used local anaesthetic agents. Duration and frequency of motor and sensory blockade, and onset time were determined after injection of 5.0% lignocaine, 0.75% bupivacaine and 1.0% amethocaine to the same groups of rats with chronically implanted catheters in the lumbar subarachnoid space....

Bupivacaine 0.5% when used as a local anaesthetic for ocular cataract surgery does not give absolute ocular akinesia but provides adequate and prolonged pain relief. In comparison lignocaine provides good ocular akinesia at operation but pain relief is short lived. The mixture of the two local anaesthetics in equal volumes eliminated the disadvantages of their individual use.
متن کاملResponse of mhs swine to i.v. infusion of lignocaine and bupivacaine.
We report the negative response of MHS swine to i.v. infusion of lignocaine and bupivacaine yielding plasma concentrations which equal or exceed those reported in humans during extradural analgesia. It is concluded that local anaesthetic techniques using the amide-linked local anaesthetics administered in conventional dosage are safe to use in patients known to be genetically susceptible to mal...
متن کاملExtradural analgesia in obstetrics: a controlled trial of carbonated lignocaine and bupivacaine hydrochloride with or without adrenaline.
Four local anaesthetic solutions (2% carbonated lignocaine with or without adrenaline and 0.5% bupivacaine HCl with or without adrenaline) were used randomly for 335 continuous lumbar extradural blocks in labour. Carbonated lignocaine caused a more rapid onset of analgesia than bupivacaine HCl. The addition of adrenaline made little difference to the onset times, prolonged markedly the duration...
